Favourite Poem

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

AAP Assignment

Here is the to a video I chose for my AAP assignment. It is an advertisement for Nikon, quite a famous brand for cameras. Enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vG8dZYDXp4

A close up shot was used to show the man taking pictures of a mountain the camera screen showing the mountain is clear and that could be a selling point for the camera with a high definition. Another close up shot was used to show that the camera was waterproof and will not malfunction in deep waters, it could be another selling point for the camera with a waterproof function. A new selling point could be that Nikon also creates new upgrades for their cameras like zoom lens, flashes. A generation of high quality images was created for more improvement.

Multiple Intelligence Test

Multiple Intelligence Test is a test to find out which area one performs best by showing a list of questions, with them of all different areas and through the person's response to the questions, his/her personality or ability at a specific area will be shown through a form of a "pie", which is a circle divided into the number of areas tested in the Multiple Intelligence Test and it will show which area the person is best through the total tally of marks. Another form to show the marks most probably is through a bar graph, also using the total tally of marks. I think that the way the system calculates the marks of the person is that with (for example: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree, Strongly Agree) or maybe with other options, and 1 point will be given for the worst choice to show disagreement or dislike and maybe 6 points will be awarded for the best choice to show agreement or like(if there are 6 choices). I really find the creator of the Multiple Intelligence Test an impressive person as he/she could figure out a way to test for a person's ability or personality through simple questions. The person tested may not even know that the tester is testing him/her to get his/her ability and personality. The Multiple Intelligence Test is indeed very smart to get abilities and personalities of people through such an interesting way. I tried it out myself and my best area was Logical, which is being number smart. The Multiple Intelligence Test is indeed a very interesting invention.

Hwa Chong Institution's Annual Cross Country Run!

Last Wednesday, on the 24 of February, Hwa Chong Institution held the annual cross country run. For the secondary one students, which is what I am, we had to run 3 kilometres within the school compound but there was a very long road which we had to run outside the school, I guess it is about 300 to 400 metres or even more. I was satisfied with my results as I took around 17 to 20 minutes to complete the whole run of 3 kilometres. As for the other levels and the teachers, they had to run a distance of 4 kilometres, and it is also within the school compound, only that they had to run a further distance than us by taking some longer routes, u-turning a few hundred metres after where we made the u-turn. After adding up all those additional distances they ran a total of 4 kilometres. Actually, I was also very satisfied with my results, not only in timing, but also that I did not get overtaken by a student of other levels or teachers, maybe because they started later than us and had to run a longer distance. There was also a Milo van giving out cups of cold milo to students who need a drink desperately. A sale of cans of isotonic drinks was on too, selling cans of isotonic drinks at 70 cents each, which is counted as quite an affordable price already. It was indeed a great experience for me and it will help me a lot to burn fats as I am not so slim...... This may sound funny as it will happen a year later, but I will just say it. I really am looking forward to next year's cross country run so that I can continue burning fats and will also exercise regularly to keep fit and to maintain a healthy life style.

Socratic Seminar Discussions!

Last Friday, on the 19 of February, my class had a mock session on Socratic Seminar Discussions and it was indeed a fun and interesting event for me. I had experience in this as I done it before when I was in primary school but those were only the basics and we did not use current affairs to doit, instead we used poems and short stories. I was a little disappointed when I knew that I was not a panellist but a judge(in a way) as I had to grade a classmate on his performance during the discussion. Actually, I wanted to be a panellist as it is really fun to be sitting in there for the discussion as compared to sitting behind the person you are grading and just observing him on what he says or does. It is also good to know what and how your classmates think about current affairs, like news, either in Singapore or not as we get to learn more, in the end, if you give good statements or points, it will be beneficial to everyone. I hope that I will have a chance to be in the inner circle as a panellist in the next Socratic Seminar Discussion so that I can express my thoughts and views and also, I can learn new knowledge from my classmates. It was indeed a fresh and interesting experience as it was different from what I did in my primary school days. I am looking forward eagerly to the next Socratic Seminar Discussion and wish that my teacher would let me have a chance to be part of the inner circle as a panellist.

Chinese New Year!

Hi people out there reading my blog, I hope that you had an enjoyable and fruitful Chinese New Year(CNY) for the few days of holidays! Let me share what I did during the CNY period. On the eve of CNY, I still had some homework which I did not complete and had to bring it to my grandmother's house to do as I went there for reunion dinner and also played badminton with my cousins. On the first day of CNY, I completed all the homework and enjoyed myself a lot when we went to relatives' houses as I got many ang baos and also could eat many sweets. It was also when I visited a relative's house then I found out that I was an uncle to 2 boys! I was half surprised and half happy to receive this piece of news. On the second day of CNY, I stayed in my grandmother's house all day and played with my cousin's Xbox for almost the whole day. The children of relatives who came also played with it too. It was the first time that I played an electronic game for such a long period of time! Many relatives came and again, I got many ang baos. As for the third day of CNY, I stayed at home all day to study for some tests and to switch back to the schooling "mode" too. I had a really fun and exciting CNY, what about you? Please do reply to my post and others too! Goodbye! HAPPY CNY!!!

Sorry! My Apologies!!!

Sorry to all people who have seen my blog! My apologies for not introducing myself before my previous blog post. Sorry!!! My name is Lye Tee Yin Joel and I am from Hwa Chong Instituition. I am born on 23 April 1997 . I came from Chongfu Primary School and I am in secondary one this year. Hwa Chong is a very, very big school with a very big campus and is one of the top secondary schools in Singapore too! Hwa Chong has many interesting activities and programmes also to somehow talent-pick some students and let them have enrichment programmes on what they are good at as a way to help them to emphasise more on it. Although I have quite a tight timetable in school, I try to complete all my homework in school, if not, I can do it at home or even leave it to another day to do. Actually, one needs to have good time management and a thinking which is to try and complete all homework in school. My life in Hwa Chong is really good and fruitful and I love the school. Boys who are in primary six who are reading this blog, do think of coming to Hwa Chong!
